Private Dining is Australia’s dedicated venue directory, helping people find and book the perfect private dining room, function space, or event venue for any occasion. With over 170 venues listed across Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, and Adelaide, the platform needed to handle a large, filterable database of restaurants, bars, hotels, pubs, wineries, and cafes — each with detailed attributes like seating capacity, cuisine type, features, and location — while remaining fast and intuitive for everyday users searching for a specific kind of space
The brand needed more than a simple listings page. It required a robust search and filtering system that let users narrow venues by category, capacity (from intimate 1-10 seated rooms to 100+ seated banquet halls), cuisine, occasion type (weddings, corporate events, birthdays, engagement parties), and region — all the way down to specific inner-city suburbs. On top of functionality, the site needed a premium, editorial feel that matched the caliber of the venues it represents.
We built a comprehensive directory platform featuring advanced multi-category search and filtering, individual venue profile pages with photo galleries, contact details, and feature tags, a “People’s Best Choice” and “Featured Listings” showcase, city-based browsing for major Australian destinations, a customer testimonial section with a trust score display, and an integrated blog for content marketing around event planning and venue guides. The result is a polished, highly functional directory that makes discovering and booking the right private dining space simple — while giving venue partners a strong platform to be found by the right customers.
Problems
Before this project, there was no centralized, easy-to-navigate platform bringing together Australia’s private dining and event venues in one place. People planning a birthday dinner, corporate lunch, wedding, or milestone celebration had to search individually across dozens of restaurant websites, with no way to compare capacity, cuisine, or features side by side — making the venue-hunting process slow and frustrating. The directory also needed to support a large and growing volume of listings (170+ venues and counting) without becoming cluttered or difficult to search. With so many filterable attributes — seating capacity, cuisine type, occasion, region, and dozens of specific features like AV equipment, fireplaces, or waterfront views — the site needed a filtering system robust enough to handle complexity while still feeling simple and fast for everyday users. Additionally, the business needed built-in trust signals (reviews, verified listings, testimonials) since users were making decisions about spending money on important personal and professional events, often without having visited the venue in person first.
